Our Story, Our Light

Pure Light opened its doors on a beautiful spring day in the month of May, a month of new beginnings and of creativity. We will “double celebrate” May 16th every year, as it not only marks our birth date, but it’s also the birthday of a creative young soul named Tyeson, our son, who died in 2006 at the age of 25.

Tye was blessed with enchanting humor and unbridled energy. He lit up a room when he entered and left everyone with a smile with his fun-loving nature. His creativity, charisma and curiosity for life compelled him to become a self-taught musician, an accomplished artist and a remarkable cook. His natural, athletic gifts gave him a great love for the outdoors with respect and gratitude for the land and sea. Tye always gave what he could and listened with his heart. He squeezed every drop out of life. His fearless spirit, however, led him to experiment with drugs and alcohol as a teenager. This naive temptation turned into an addiction from which he couldn’t escape. Our once confident and joyful son was overcome with relenting fear, blinding him to the choices he made. He died January 19, 2006 of an accidental overdose and sadly was found by his youngest brother.

We were faced with a life of overwhelming grief or a choice to carry on his loving spirit with a purpose and passion. The easiest choice was sadness, however, in time it became clear that all would be better served by being open to the possibilities in our life’s lesson. For some time before Tye had crossed over, we had been searching to bring a way of providing ceremony and ritual as a more reverent way of celebrating life’s events in today’s culture. During an intensely painful period of healing, while traveling in Bali, we became inspired and encouraged to follow our visions. In a few short months that followed, with the love and support of family and friends, the mystery began to unfold as plans to create Pure Light in honor of Tyeson began to take shape. With a huge leap of faith, Pure Light, a space dedicated to moving positive energy, embracing creativity and adding to the consciousness of all things kind, loving and being at peace, was born.

It is our sincere hope at Pure Light that we can help others recognize and be true to their own unique creative gifts, so they may use them wisely and consciously—not becoming distracted by less positive influences.

While Tyeson’s addiction extinguished his life, he left behind a precious baby boy discovered just after his passing. Baby Tye Lhyric Collester was born 11 days early on Tyeson’s brother’s birthday, the same brother who found Tye that tragic day. We can’t help but believe this was Tye’s ultimate apology to his brother for leaving him.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us on this very bittersweet journey and we’d like to share a video that captures our son’s creativity. The day Tye died he signed a contract to host and star in a cooking show he created called The Hungry Punker. Tyeson Jack Collester lives on in our hearts and minds.

Let positive thoughts move you.

Let nature be your compass.

Live each day to the fullest.
